Macedonia – lays north of Greece

Philipp II – leader of Macedonia

Admired the Greek culture and way of life

Wanted to unite all Greek city-states against the Persians

By 338 BC, Macedonians crushed the Greek allies





Alexander the Great

Was the son of Philip II

Was 20 years old when he came to power

Goal was to conquer Asia

He captured Egypt and Syria

Freed the Greek city-states from the Persians

His troops marched into Iran

Was a great military leader

Legacy of Alexander the Great

Extended Greek and Macedonian rule

Spread Greek culture and ideas

Hellenistic Era- Greek language and culture spread to non-Greek areas

After his death the Empire fell apart
